Questions:-  (This review is from the point of view of motorhomers driving a Bessacarr E769 tag axle – 8.56m)

What are the pitches like?

Some decent sized pitches, varying in shade and proximity to the main A7 road along the south coast.  This time we were in Row J, on a pitch with lots of sun, but a quarter mile hike uphill to get to it!

Not a wonderful surface.  If it rains it’s dirty.  If it’s dry, it’s dusty…  Ground sheet definitely needed.  We also had a very large drain cover to negotiate on our pitch, which some would not like

Is there water on each pitch?

No – Mostly shared between 2 or 3 pitches. Very close.  Easy to fill up

What is the electric like?

At least 10A – We had no problem in the 6 nights we stayed this time

Drainage?

Yes  – proper drive over site with washing facilities, although a bit awkward to access especially for larger units.  Also a machine where you can empty and wash out toilet cartridges (for a fee of course)

What’s the site access like?

Very good – easy access from the main road; small dedicated parking area on arrival.

Although we noticed that there were many bigger motorhomes this time and they struggled to get in and out of the main entrance.  It would be a good idea to call ahead (particularly in a taller van) and a gate at the side can be used for access.

What are the Sanitary facilities like?

Toilets:                             Just about acceptable, all in need of renovation.  Several blocks available throughout the park.   Many toilets move when you sit on them!

Toilet paper provided? Yes

Showers:                          Again just about acceptable.  Calv only used them as it was too difficult to empty any gray water from our pitch (the motorhome service area being 1/4 mile away down a steep hill)  He was really happy on our last evening knowing it was the last time he’d have to take a shower there…

All facilities were cleaned at least 3 or 4 times a day (maybe even 5)

What other facilities are there?

2 swimming pools (1 indoor, 1 outdoor – only 1 open at a time).  The indoor pool is a really good facility, nice and warm.  Go early to get the most out of your swim (I used to aim for about 9.45am – however the gates were never unlocked before 10am this time and 1 time I gave up at 10.15am (as there were already the limit of people that could swim easily waiting, and I knew more would turn up shortly)

Café/Bar (Mario’s); mini-market; reception; take away (Da Bruno’s – no longer offering the Chicken & chips that we were really looking forward to); restaurant (Da Brunos – rather overpriced for fairly standard fair; always busy with the Spanish though); Indian restaurant (off-site, a 5 min walk); Sauna; laundry (often busy – usually best to wait until after lunch); outdoor gym; petanque; table tennis; kid’s play area; bungalows; social area.

Is there any internet; if so how much and how good?

Yes.  Free in the bar area.  Not overly good reception.

How welcoming are they at reception and staff in general?

Generally welcoming and professional.  However, when we went to pay the guy we saw tried to deny us use of our ACSI card as we hadn’t shown it on arrival (there wasn’t an opportunity – they had our details, and just said ‘that’s it then, go pitch up…’)  Calv gave him ‘the look’ and he capitulated immediately!

There is always somebody available to assist.

How much is it?

With the ACSI card 27E per night – this has gone up 2 levels of the ACSI range and is absolutely not worth it However, the longer you stay the cheaper the site’s own rates are – it is likely to be cheaper to use their own rates if you are intending to stay for a while.

What’s the area like?

5/10 min walk to a wonderful beach and the marina

There’s an extensive boardwalk along the beach – all the way to La Cala de Mijas.  There are also a number of shops available in walking distance – unfortunately it’s not quite so easy to cycle as the road is the main A7, which is definitely not suitable for cycling on…!

This time we just visited La Cala (walked there, bus back)

There is an awful lot to see and visit in the greater surrounding area – although it is better to have a car.

Suitable for 5th Wheel Vans?

Yes – there were many here.  Prices are possibly different for anything over 9m

More detail:

The Good:-

The facilities such as the indoor swimming pool

Prices are good in Marios

The Bad:-

Nothing really updated for some years.  Some may see that familiarity is a good thing, but many areas need attention

The outdoor pool is filled and cleaned and ready, but not open, not even for sunbathing 😦

 The Ugly:-

Moving On:

From here we went to a marina in La Linea de la Conception to visit Gibraltar.

Would we return??

Never again
