3. HOLKHAM – Norfolk

3. HOLKHAM – Norfolk

Holkham is a little hidden gem, although it is clearly very well known and plenty of people take the trouble to pay £5 to park for the day even though there are no facilities (other than the parking spaces) provided for this fee.

Then you have a 10-15 minute walk through the pine trees before finding the back of the beach.  Being a huge beach you then have another 5-10 minutes to walk before finding the water itself.

But WOW!  Definitely worth it 🙂  Soft powdery sand, steep dunes (actually very difficult to walk up in places!) and so much space to spread out.  An absolutely stunning spot.  As I say the only downside being that there are no facilities whatsoever.

If visiting by car try to arrive early (like for West Wittering) as the car park gets very busy.

Also opposite the road down to the beach is Holkham Hall which is open to visit and hosts numerous events throughout the year.  There was a triathlon whilst we were staying in the area and a week after we left Tom Jones was playing in the grounds.

Definitely one to visit (and worth a detour too).
