Questions:-  (This review is from the point of view of motorhomers driving a Bessacarr 769 tag axle – 8.56m)

What are the pitches like?

A mix of hardsgandings and large grass pitches.  Well draining ground (even with all the rain we’ve had over the last few weeks the ground is firm)

Is there water on each pitch?

No,  and not enough water points around the site.  These seem to be situated behind the hardstandings and unless you are within a couple of pitches you will have to move to fill up with water

What is the electric like?

Excellent, 16amp.  Absolutely no problems

Drainage?

Yes – in front of the facilities block; a ‘drive over’ (that you need to back into)

What’s the site access like?

Excellent access from the road, the approach is along the A386 which is a main road, but a ‘minor’ main road!  If coming from Cornwall stay on the A30 for as long as you can (even though this feels like you’re going further – you are, but you need to really…)

What are the Sanitary facilities like?

Good enough, if dated and a little tired.  Main block with several shower and toilet cubicles in each of the ladies and gents.  Unfortunately the showers, as well as ever other toilet cubicle, are still closed due to Covid (even though this is now unnecessary).

There are however 3 large individual bathrooms available for use, but by 8am this morning there was already a queue for these…

Toilets:               Clean, if a little dated

Toilet paper provided? Yes; plentiful                                                                                         Showers:           Several large cubicles – but can’t comment on how good they are as not available for use

What other facilities are there?

Bins and CWD + pet wash area next to the CWD

Dishwashing area

Laundry, also with spin dryer, iron and ironing board (all at a cost).  There is also a drying room at the end of the ladies facilities (?!) – this is just a small room (large cupboard really) with a couple of airers and poles with lots of coathangers – might come in useful 🙂

Little shop

Visiting ‘Riverside Diner’ (Burger Van) on Friday and Saturday evening (5pm-8pm)

Good playground (with 2 long slides)

Cycle hub – for re-charging electric bikes

Tennis Court and recreation green

Access to the River Tavy

Post box and red telephone box (in use) on site

Is there any internet; if so how much and how good?

Yes, free internet.  However, unable to connect for the duration of our stay (it tries but eventually gives a message saying ‘unable to connect’)  We just used our 4G and piggy backed off our phones for which there was a good signal.

Very  professional.  Painless booking in process.

How much is it?

We paid £26.25 per night including electric

What’s the area like?

It’s South Devon and Dartmoor!! So many walks and so much cycling to be had!

Tavistock, which is a lovely town, is only a few miles away and the site is on the N27, an easy route that takes you straight into town.  There is another option if you turn left out of the site and then left again.  A couple of hundred metres up this road to Princetown there is a crossroads – take a left again onto the ‘old road’ (it looks like a farm track).  There is a VERY steep portion near the beginning and I wouldn’t recommend it for nervous cyclists, but we enjoyed it 🙂

There is also a bus that stops right in front of the site, but apparently there are only 2 buses each way on a Friday (and none any other days!)
