Questions:- (This review is from the point of view of motorhomers driving a Bessacarr 769 tag axle – 8.56m)
What are the pitches like?
Large grass pitches. Very generously sized. Rather slopey (but consider where you are!) Larger units likely to need to use the electric pitches for the best chance of getting level
Is there water on each pitch?
No, but easily accessible
What is the electric like?
Excellent, 16amp. Absolutely no problems
Drainage?
Yes – bucket into the hedge!
What’s the site access like?
Excellent access from the road, entrance directly opposite the farm. If you miss it you will find yourself in Bigbury on Sea and turn around in the car park – which will be packed in high summer. Try not to miss the entrance! (you really shouldn’t have an issue with this)
The approach is along about 5 miles of narrow Devon lanes; mostly allowing 2 way traffic, but with the occasional pinch points.
If following the site’s directions please note that at the point at which you join the A379 from the A3121 after Ermington – there is currently NO LEFT TURN as there are major roadworks here and the turn is almost back on itself. We have no idea how long the actual diversion is as we turned around in a garage after 5.5 miles (!) We would advise turning in the 1st garage you come across (which is after just a couple of miles)
What are the Sanitary facilities like?
Although new (to the site) the facilities are basic, but clean and adequate
Toilets: Several cubicles
Toilet paper provided? Yes; plentiful Showers: Several cubicles
What other facilities are there?
Bins and CWD
Dishwashing area
Fresh produce on an honesty box basis
Is there any internet; if so how much and how good?
No internet, and signal patchy due to the area
No reception, just pitch up wherever (just not in the electric pitches if you haven’t paid for electric.
If you have paid for electric turn right once on the site (in front of the toilet block).
If not having electric you can carry on up the hill if you prefer and pitch up anywhere 🙂
How much is it?
We paid £25.00 per night including electric (it’s £20 per night without)
What’s the area like?
Just amazing! There are several circular walks from the site (we did the the one to Ringwauld – unfortunately The Journey’s End pub was closed)
2 pubs close by – The Pilchard Inn on Burgh Island and the Bar in Challabrough Holiday Park
Beautiful beaches and Burgh Island!
We also visited Dartmoor (Haytor on this occasion) and heading towards Plymouth we found Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo (Newton & Noss), which was absolutely charming
Yes. However, we are returning to the area in the next couple of weeks and have found another, smaller, site a bit further up the road in St Anns Chapel (Chapelcombe Farm) – watch out for my review!
We didn’t like so much:-
The difficulty getting level
We hated:-
Nothing
Moving On:
We headed home 😦
