Pamplona :)

2 posts in 2 days – I’m on fire!  Well actually it’s because I have about another 3 hours left on Wifi and I want to make the most of it 🙂

Also I wanted to tell you how lovely the old part of Pamplona is.  Yesterday afternoon we sat out by the van in the sunshine (it was only about 13 degrees but out of the wind it was lovely).  We knew it was unlikely to get above about 4 degrees today so we put our base layers on and wrapped up warm ready for our cycle ride along the river (about 10km).  (Btw, base layer bottoms seem to be like tights ladies – you need to get a size up for them to actually fit properly and be comfortable – just saying…!)

It was fairly straightforward – we only went wrong twice, once on the way there and once on the way back.  Quite good for us, don’t you think?!  Continue reading “Pamplona :)”

A short break in Symonds Yat

Symonds Yat is definitely worth a visit. Lovely walking (if you don’t mind a few hills!)

Probably our last trip away this year before next year.  We’re making the most of my last few days before my teaching kicks off for the next few months.

We stayed at Orchard Farm on Wednesday evening, and set off just after rush hour on Thursday morning.  We were staying at, what appears to be, a fairly new campsite just a couple of miles from Symonds Yat.

After setting up we headed out to Symonds Yat – we decided not to walk as it seemed to be further that we had initially thought.  We followed the walk down to the river from the top of the rock – it’s actually quite difficult walking down as it was really quite steep in places.  Continue reading “A short break in Symonds Yat”

Day 38 – The Last Post

A fitting title for this, my last post, as we spent our last day visiting the D-Day beaches in Normandy.  So also a very sobering day.  After all, if it wasn’t for such sacrifices we probably wouldn’t have been able to do what we’ve just done for almost 6 weeks.

As we drove through Bayeux on our way to Point du Hoc we noticed signs for the British Cemetery but decided to keep going and visit at the end of the day.  Little did we realise that it would be another 10 hours before we started heading back to the van, and we would be a long way from Bayeux by then!
