Questions:- (This review is from the point of view of motorhomers driving a Bessacarr E769 tag axle – 8.56m)
What are the pitches like?
A variety of sizes ranged variously up the hill to the top area (very busy up there with big vans and live-ins). Nicely terraced though and easy to level up
Is there water on each pitch?
No, fill up before pitching as the tap is halfway up the hill
What is the electric like?
Very good – no issues at all
Drainage?
Yes – there is a good motorhome service area. Albeit in a slightly awkward place halfway up the hill
What’s the site access like?
Good – turn left before Lidl (I’m sure the roadworks we encountered will have finished by now!), and then left again at the very end of the road (with the park on the left). After going under the road you cannot miss the sign where you turn left… The road at times doesn’t feel like a road, but it is correct 🙂
There is a park up in front of reception, which was not open at all during our stay. You need to go to the cafe where the guy behind the counter will take your passport details and very little else will be said! He doesn’t even know if there’s room or you’ll fit on any of the available pitches!!
What are the Sanitary facilities like?
Toilets: We were pitched at the bottom of the site overlooking the petanque rinks. We eventually worked out that the toilets are unisex (they’re all individual bathrooms), accessed through the laundry
NB: There is a 2nd, much newer, toilet block at the top of the site. Quite a walk though if you’re pitched up at the bottom!
Toilet paper provided? No Showers: Calv had problems with the water temperature and also the cleanliness of the facilities. Perhaps there is a need for updating
What other facilities are there?
Bins etc.
Laundry & washing lines
Dish washing and laundry sinks
Motorhome Service Area
Petanque rinks
Numerous tennis and padel courts for hire (this is a tennis and padel club as well)
Gym
Cafe
Children’s play area
Swimming pool (tucked away amongst the bungalows and not looking overly inviting)
Is there any internet; if so how much and how good?
Yes – Free! I can’t comment on the reception
How welcoming are they at reception and staff in general?
The guy in the cafe was a man of few words and reception was never open
How much is it?
13 Euros including electric – 10 Euros without. Cheaper if you stay longer. Excellent value for money
What’s the area like?
A very interesting landscape – almost like a moonscape at times. Back down the road there is a lovely park with a lake. The town of Vera itself is nice, with a lovely square and a bullring.
We also cycled to the hill with the cross and went to the top. This used to be the castle surrounded by a town on the hill. There is little evidence remaining.
Suitable for 5th Wheel Vans?
Yes – there are several in the top area
More detail:
The Good:-
The area
The price
Sports facilities
Most of the other campers (particularly the French) were very friendly
What could be improved:
Lots. This was clearly a well loved site when first opened (the tiled structures are lovely but need some care)
The downhill bathrooms are in desperate need of an update
The reception should be open so the man in the cafe is not your only contact!
We really didn’t like:
I initially hated it, but settled down quite quickly (another example of how things always look different in the morning)
Moving On:
We headed back up to Banos de Fortuna(again!), and the thermal pools 🙂 (La Fuente), via Cartagena this time though
Would we return??
The site – yes, but only because of the price and the fact that my cousin has a place in Vera Playa, so we could visit 🙂
